Behold the 12 Holy Nights CONCENTRATION.

zodiac - RSteiner.png

A Complimentary Spiritual Exercise & Twelve Day journey into the Heart of the Matter…into the Arms of the Mother, Father, Friend, Beloved God.

This journey is meant to enliven & revivify the blood, to dissolve doubt & fear, to midwife the birth of the Higher-Being through the Womb of Remembrance, to bring clarity regarding the Tasks at Hand & to develop the INNER capacities to PERCEIVE what stands behind the material world.

Each concentration will provide a series of short readings that merge to reveal a Sacred Task given through THE WORD.

The readings will be a marriage of voices from those who are pioneering the Science of Spirit, or HEART-thinking.

“May you come to KNOW the true meaning of Christmas!”

The Over-arching TASK at hand:

To penetrate to the reality of the world...is the task of this post Atlantean Epoch, and Rudolf Steiner tells us, we can only do this by developing the mood of ‘wonder’ through a reverent devotion to the world of reality, which eventually leads us to...loving ‘surrender’.

We must surrender our lower egos by changing our thinking...

When we develop a feeling of ‘loving surrender’ we are transforming our thinking into a faculty that allows the world itself to teach us something of its nature...

One who has practised surrender rises to an imagination of the flourishing will in all things...

To develop imagination one must learn to think differently, that is one must learn to forget the lower ego for a time, so as to find the higher self...

What helps us to achieve this? Anthroposophia, she opens our hearts and births our Higher egos...

Graphicgoldenthread.jpg

Through this cascade of readings, you are being asked to read between the stars.

You are pioneering a new way of thinking.

It may not be easy to weave the golden thread, but keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Allow the "mood of soul” that births within as you read one passage to merge with the “mood of soul” from the next.

In the end, practice uniting all soul moods that have arisen into ONE.

You do not have to understand every word with your mind, but rather bring the questions (perhaps intense questions or confusion) into your heart and let them gently work upon you.

Ponder in your heart.

Take this with you into dreamtime…into night school.

Ask your guardian angel to reveal to you what you need to KNOW in the light of your work here.

If all else fails, go outside at night, find two stars side by side & allow your gaze to rest between them. Notice what you see. Notice what you feel.

You will begin to FEEL what I mean when I say “weave the golden thread.”

Bring this feeling into your reading.

December 29th, 2021 Addition

Keep in mind that the 6th Holy Night is from midnight on Dec. 29th to midnight Dec. 30th.

Let us add Aquarius into the mix:

“30 December - Aquarius: This is connected with David (the star of Waterman). David lived a strange life. He could not become a King because of Saul, but lived in caves, often in danger of death. He gives us the impression of a man swimming in a stream whose waves carry him along, hence also his failures, though he is at times guided by cosmic powers to prepare the way for the physical body of the Christ. He is guided at times by a spiritual illumination, and this constellation is connected with human existence in the past, when people were as selfless as a plant. David was not selfless, but even so, he was an instrument used by destiny to bring about this coming event.”

-Willi Sucher

AND MAY THIS BECOME THE QUARTZ OF THE OUTFLOWING WISDOM AVAILABLE TO OUR SOULS:

“The Sixth Holy Night - SPIRITS OF MOTION DYNAMIS - THE NIGHT OF GOOD WILL.

I have been asked why sometimes my Holy Nights begin on the 24th and other times on the 25th of December. I will elucidate it again because it can be quite confusing. Where one starts the Holy Nights depends on whether one is experiencing them from the standpoint of the human being - the 24th - and therefore Microcosmically, or from the standpoint of the Zodiac, and therefore Macrocosmically beginning with the Angelic Hierarchy.

There is also another standpoint - the standpoint of the course of the Sun in the day or the Spiritual Sun in the night:

On the 6th Dec. 1910, Dr. Steiner explained: “If you follow the course of the Sun in the daytime from the constellation of Aries, through Taurus, Gemini and so on, to Virgo, you must follow its progress at night from Libra on to Aquarius and Pisces. This is the direction of the Spiritual Sun. (Background to the Gospel of St. Mark, 1968, pg. 73)

A few days later, on the 18th Dec., the point was made again: “John the Baptist had necessarily to receive an Aquarius Initiation, the expression indicating that the Sun was standing in the constellation of Aquarius. Try to understand it this way: On the day or light side of the Zodiac lie Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, then Libra. The constellations on the night or dark side of the Zodiac are Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. '

We will consider this another time.

We must always consider the dual nature of any phenomena or being, or any standpoint: light and dark, spiritual sun, physical sun etc. And one must choose which standpoint one will take, just as a person chooses a spot on a mountain from which to observe a view! Only by taking into consideration all standpoints does one trully know what surrounds the mountain!

Spiritual work is never simple!

Every night has a dual nature, just as day and every year, every life on earth and every life after death - a midnight hour where (for this is a place as well as a time) one stands in perfect equillibrium between rising and falling, between breathing in and out, between heart beats, between light and darkness, between physical and spiritual.

A night begins when the sun goes down, and a day begins when the sun goes up, just as each year we rise towards the Summer Solstice when the physical Sun is at its highest and fall towards the winter Solstice when the Spiritual Sun is at its highest. Every soul and spirit descends to Earth from the Spiritual sun towards the middle of life on earth and this reaches an apogee around 36 years of age where the effects of the earth and physical sun or midday hour, are at their highest. After that every soul and spirit ascends from the body and finally through the gate of death towards the spiritul Sun which is found at the midnight hour.

Earth evolution too has had its middle point as do the larger epochs and the cultural epochs that belong to it.

These middle points are points of transition, points of change and balance.

Nightly we make a transition from one 'date' to another 'date' at the midnight hour, so the 24th of December is only so until midnight when it then becomes the 25th of December! So one cannot simply look at a night as if it were one date!

If we hold fast to one date we miss the point entirely! We must know which standpoint we are observing from. In this study it is from the Macrocosmic standpoint.

So the Month June is associated with this Holy Night. June is named after Juno Roman Goddess of childbirth and fertility and is connected to the Spirits of Motion who were regents on the Moon, and continue to be connected to that aspect of fertilisation and childbirth connected to the Moon - the Astral.)

June stands at a fulcrum of the year where we move from the time when the physical sun is at its highest point in Summer (Northern Hemisphere) towards the lowest point of the physical sun's position in winter in December. Conversely this night we stand at a fulcrum that leads us from the dark aspect of the zodiac, that is that aspect that belongs to Human beings, Angels, Archangels, Archai and Spirits of Form to the light aspect that is, the Spirits of Movement, Wisdom, Thrones, Cherubim, and Seraphim, Holy Spirit and Son.

The region of Scales/Libra belongs to the Spirits of Motion/Dynamis, those beings who stand at the fulcrum, they maintain the equilibrium of the cosmos not by standing still or having a set 'date' but by moving!

It is for this reason that this Night which stand in the middle and the month of June belong to them.

Let us recapitulate:

The angels have as their lowest member the etheric body and their highest will be the spiritualised astral body Manas.

The Archangels have as their lowest member the astral body and the highest will be the spiritualised etheric body - Budhi.

The Archai have as their lowest member the Ego and the highest will be the spiritualised physical body - Atma.

The entire 3rd Hierarchy is concerned with manifestation and the developement of the human soul. In manifesting the third hiearchy push out the light of the spirit which fills them and their offspring the nature-Spirits are the light bearing beings that enter our souls with every perception, carrying the light of the spirit, World being's light - the thoughts of the angels into us. Hence the angels work directly into the three sheaths of the soul, thinking, feeling and willing and their counterparts in the physical body, astral, etheric and physical to prepare them for Manas Budhi and Atma.

When we come to the second Hierarchy it is different. The 2nd hierarchy has to do with self creation. Rudolf Steiner tells us:

'What in the beings of the Third Hierarchy is manifestation of self, is in them (The Second Hierarchy) self-realisation, self-creation, a stamping of impressions of their own being; and what in the beings of the Third Hierarchy is being filled with spirit, is in them (The Second Hierarchy) stimulation of life, which consists in severance, in objectifying themselves.

One could say that with reference to our recent study, when we objectify our souls and enter into what we see, whether man or nature, in this 'movement' in this objectification of ourselves, lives the Spirits of Form.

So when the Spirits of form inspire us to bring equilibrium into thinking feeling and willing so love can arise in the human soul, they are doing this in this sense on behalf of the Spirits of Motion, in the same way our limbs or will works on behalf of our heads.

The Spirits of Form have as their lowest member Manas or Spirit self, the Spirits of Motion have Buddhi or Life Spirit.

It stands to reason that the external form of the Earth planet as is our own form are the creation of the Spirits of Form. The inner livingness, the Life of the planet and of ourselves is regulated by the beings we call the Spirits of Motion or Movement.

Life is in a perpetual state of change and in the human being this is exemplified by the circulation of the blood.

The Spirits of Motion belonging to the light Aspect of the Sun sphere where the human etheric body was elaborated are intimately connected to this circulation for they were working into it during our sun existence. In our circulation one could say lives the Will of the Spirits of Motion.

They are also connected to the Logos or the Word and in our time when it is spoken by human beings in the day because every night these words resound in our etheric body.

"It can really be said: the Ego and astral body of man, which from falling asleep to awakening are outside the physical and etheric bodies, are unconscious, as far as the ordinary consciousness is concerned. But they do experience what is happening. And just as they experience the etheric activity of the senses during sleep, as an inward streaming and flowing, they experience too during sleep the etheric body as individualised Logos. Speech, which otherwise is directed outwards to the ears of our fellow men, is as if transformed, turned inwards etherically. It is as if we were to repeat inwards everything which we have said during the day, from waking to falling asleep — but in the opposite order, beginning with the evening and ending with the morning. In a silent language we repeat all that we have said from morning to evening — but in a way that reveals the whole nature of our soul. In so far as man's essential being is experienced in what is spoken, from morning to evening, this experience is manifested inwardly, from evening to morning, in the resounding, speaking, individualised Logos. And this resounding, speaking, individualised Logos brings to expression at the same time — writing, as it were, into the time-sequence of the etheric, in that gleaming, gently phosphorescent light — the occult script corresponding to everything that works inwardly during the night, as the other side of what is spoken during the day. (The same thing happens during every sleep, even during a daytime nap, but in a more fragmentary way.)

"Looking at this still more closely, using the same methods through which the individualised Logos that weaves within man is revealed — seeking the ultimate reality, behind what is fundamentally only appearance — one finds all those hierarchical beings called in the anthroposophical writings Dynamis, who are above the Exusiai."

Rudolf Steiner.

During our waking life the Dynamis, are active in the movement of our circulatory system, and in the beat and rhythm of heart and lungs, and the etheric activity of our bodies. During sleep they have to:

'...absorb what the human being is, morally — whether he is good or evil, devoted to error or to truth. The activities appropriate to the beings of the Second Hierarchy are individualised according to what man is, as good or evil earthly man, as earthly man living in truth or in error.'

When we use our words to say something evil, something filled with hatred, or even when we refrain to say something that might help another, the work of the entire Second Hierarchy is violently dislocated, and must be brought into balance again. Our words have an effect on the progress of the Spirits of Motion!

And it is because the region of the scales or Libra stand between the light element of the hierarchies and the dark that it is the region where the Alchemical marriage occurs or rather where the Lamb meets the Virgin. Where the Sophia meets Christ in a ‘higher marriage’. This can be experienced by every human soul that enters this region with consciousness, exemplified by Christian Rosencreutz ( the reincarnated St John/Eagle) in the Alchemical Wedding.

In Jesus of Nazareth we see this perfect balance in Sun (Ego) and Moon forces (Soul - Astral body) through the unification of the Zarathustra ego with the Nathan Soul of Jesus. The perfect balance of Sun wisdom's light and Sun heart's love. Only such a perfect balance could have become the vessel for Christ the Word.

The one who can achieve this perfect balance therefore, is able to stand between the Luciferic light that enters the senses and the Darkness of Ahriman that lives in thought and becomes conscious of what lives between them in the middle: this is the light of the spirit which unites with the human soul and the selfless love capable of entering into all the things of the world consciously. In this perfect balance between inner and outer above and below lives the activity of the spirits of motion who exort us to discover the Christ the Word thereby.

For the Christ is never found in polarities, He is never found on one side or the other, but in the encircling round, in the middle in the region of our heart and lungs, or etheric body. He lives in what moves betwen one human being and another germinating and fertilising a consciousness of the soul impression of the other in loving intercourse, as an ennoblement of sexualtiy. And where a human being stands before nature and becomes conscious of the soul impression that nature fertilises in the human soul as a loving sacrifice. For this indeed is Good Will! It moves out of us into the world and transforms it through the Christ in us, it fertilises the world with love.

On this night may we find the right balance so that we are enlightened and warmed by the Spirit of Christ and through His spirit be the bearers of Good Will in the World. And what is good will if not the warm light-filled Word of Christ consciously willed out to the world?

Warm thou our hearts

Enlighten thou our heads

That good may become

What from our hearts we found

And from our heads direct

In Conscious Light filled Willing.

With love and deepest Respect for you dear friends, and for my dear friend Stephen Lesiuk who wills love and light into a living tapestry!

Namaste”

Day 6

“I HAVE.”

How can I HAVE in such a way that ALL SHALL HAVE?

Where in the Wielding Will
of World Creating
Thine own I
Comes to being in God’s I.
And thou wilt truly LIVE
In Human World Being.
— Excerpt from the Foundation Stone Meditation | Rudolf Steiner

Bring over the fruits of your labor from yesterday as you read the following WORD:

The rhythms of futurity.

I disconnected the rays of my mind from the little territory of the senses and switched them on in the unrestricted land. The aurora of my attention spread in all directions.

Reality was no longer hidden behind flesh and appearances. I stood in unveiled regions and found streams of rushing, glistening thoughts. I felt the rippling currents of the millenniums - of born and unborn civilizations. In me all futurity danced in infinite rhythms.

What is the Essence of Day 6?

Conscience is a feeling for truth. Truth = morality.

What is moral is truthful light, what is immoral is untruthful darkness.

We must cultivate the strength to know the truth on this day to really know ourselves. To know our truth, and our untruth - this is wisdom and this night is devoted to the Spirits of Wisdom, the Kyriotetes the highest spirits of the Sun and the Second Hierarchy.

The light and warmth of the sun brings us physical life (lower ego consciousness), this even science understands. But what it does not take into account are the spiritual light, and love which bring life (higher ego consciousness).

If we have become conscious of Christ in the other ‘yesterday’ then today we strive to become conscious of what Christ lights up in us, our own souls and how our souls compare with His ideal.

True conscience and morality arise out of metanoia. We become aware of the I AM pulsing through us and whether we are worthy to become one with Him.

And what is it that makes us aware, what is it that follows us every night, in our own souls, which up to now we have not thought of, but which has guided us, if not spiritual science, the essence of the being of Anthroposophia, who is the representative of the Sophia in our souls.

One could say consciousness is Anthroposophia, who leads to compassion or the love of Christ which leads to conscience.

Hence Rudolf Steiner tells us we need the Isis of Christ, the Sophia of Christ before we can find him.

For we cannot love what we are not conscious of, and if we do not love the ‘good’ we cannot redeem the ‘evil’.

We must be conscious of what lives in us through Anthroposophia who has helped us up to now in developing our souls forces for this moment!

This discernment brought to us by Anthroposophia, for she shows us ‘who we are’ in our selves helps us to have compassion for the struggle of others. We no longer feel so high and mighty and good. We realise we all have a tendency to evil, every evil, because throughout our lives, many of them, we have been to one degree or another, unconscious of what we take into us, which has become evil and implanted in us a seed of death that karma must carry out.

However, we also realise, because Anthroposophia has opened our soul eyes, that we have Christ in us and in so far as we are conscious of Him, we can overcome all these tendencies and thus too overcome the seed of death...

This light, love and life of Christ then lights up the cosmos on this night, like a little sun this is a reflection of Christ the Sun Being back to his Mother, the Divine Sophia bringing the Earthly intelligence of Christ upwards as a reverse ritual to meet the Cosmic Intelligence so that the spiritual world can see how much has changed!

The message of Christ to all higher beings through us is that Christ is converting the Earth into a sun through human etheric bodies!

On this night may we become bearers of the Christ light and so Christ messengers to the spiritual world and to others who will see Christ in our eyes, our most etheric organ.

What does Spirit Recollection LOOK and FEEL like?

SEE into what you FEEL as you read the following:

He (Jesus) drank a little and paused to observe her, and in that pause she saw him change before her eyes.

In a flicker, both a tempest of pain and the most expanded lightness of being became apparent. He seemed like those Nazarites who returned from their caves having battled with the devils in their souls. He must have fought and overcome something, and now this overcoming had generated that great effulgence she could see spilling out from him.

‘It seems I am always seeing something in you!’ she said.

‘What do you see?’

His eyes held hers.

To look at him near blinded her and so she looked away.
‘I don’t know what to tell you … I see a dazzling glory!’ she looked again, ‘Praise be to God! I see …’

‘What?’

‘I see the Son of God!’

Immediately she put a hand to her mouth as if she had blasphemed.

‘Don’t be afraid, you have committed no wrong …’ he said, ‘trust in your heart.’

Tears came into her eyes. ‘I feel joy!’ She lost her balance then, and she was shaking.

He steadied her and held her face close to his.

‘This is heaven expressing itself through you, for this is the first time my mother in heaven sees the Son who long ago departed from her … she sees me through your eyes!’

CONCENTRATE upon the following as you practice Spirit Recollection:

Lovingly Surrender the lower ego (i.e. judgement, opinion & one-sidedness) for but just a moment…a Divine Breath.

Behold THE WORD with the immaculate Heart.

Invite ANTHROPOSOPHIA to Baptize you in the New Water, the “Draught of Remembrance.”

After passing through the gate of death into the world of spirit, man can therefore receive impulses that they can carry on only if they have consciously concerned themselves with conceptions of the spiritual world.

Today there already exists a great difference between those who have died having gained ideas of the spiritual world in one way or another in true thought-forms and those personalities who have lived entirely in the conceptions of our materialistic culture. There is a great difference between these souls in the life after death, and this difference is felt particularly strongly by those souls who are setting about their return into incarnation in an earthly life.

Now you know that in the course of recent times, until well into the twentieth century, the materialistic tendencies, materialistic thinking and feeling, on the earth became more and more intensive. Those rising into the spiritual world, through the gate of death have few impulses which, if I may put it so, awaken in those about to descend to earth pleasurable anticipations of their earthly sojourn.

Its culmination was reached in the second decade of the twentieth century. So those children born in the second decade came to earth with a deep spiritual antipathy to the civilization and learning customary on the earth. This stream of impulses that came to earth with those children helped in large measure to call up the inclination on earth to wipe out this old civilization, to sweep away this culture of capitalistic and technical times. And he who is in a position to penetrate the interrelationship between the physical and super-physical worlds in the right way will not misunderstand when I say that the desire for a spiritual civilization in the hearts and souls of our youngest fellow citizens has contributed essentially to the events on the earth in recent years.

You see, my dear friends, that is—if I may put it thus—the bright side of the sad, the terrible events of recent times. It is a bright side in that it shows that the dreadful things caused by the decadence of the materialistic age have been willed by heaven, sent down as messages in the subconscious of recently-born children. It is an expression of soul which in the most recently born children is something quite different from that in children born in the nineteenth or early twentieth century. It is now essential that mankind should direct finer powers of perception to such things.

In these days mankind is proud of being practical: where, however, this practical sense should be most active in observation of actual life, people pass lightly over all these things in their seeing, speaking and thinking. The melancholy expression seen in our youngest children, in their countenances, until their fifth or sixth year is little noticed. Should it be noticed, that in itself would awaken an impulse that must cause a powerful social movement to take place.

But one must acquire the sense for the expression, the physiognomy, of human beings in their earliest years; one must indeed develop such a sense, it is quite essential. Much of the sense for these things can be cultivated (however strange that may sound to many today) by allowing oneself to enter into the aims of Eurhythmy, not just superficially seeking sensation, but with one’s whole soul. You will soon see why this is so.

Whoever is in a position, through his occult experiences, to communicate with the dead will readily notice that many thoughts (for it is by means of thoughts that one does communicate with the dead) by which one wishes to have a mutual understanding with the dead are not understood by them. Many thoughts that men have here on earth, customary thoughts, sound to the dead (naturally you must take this in the right way, I am speaking of interchange of thought with the dead) as a foreign incomprehensible language. Probing further into this situation, one finds particularly that verbs, prepositions, and above all interjections, are relatively easily understood by the dead — I repeat relatively easily — but nouns hardly at all. These leave a kind of gap in their grasp of the languages used. The dead never understand if one speaks to them chiefly in nouns. It is too noticeable that when a noun is turned into a verb they begin to understand.

Speak to the dead, for example, of the germ of something; the word germ in most cases will not be understood. It is as though they had heard nothing. Change the noun into a verb and speak of something germinating and the dead will begin to understand.

Wherein lies the cause? You realise that it lies not in the dead but in ourselves, in those, that is, who speak with the dead. And this is because since the middle of the fifteenth century, at any rate for all mid- and west-European languages—and the more is the farther west one goes—the living feeling for the picture expressed by the noun has been so lost that, when nouns are used, they sound nebulous, echoing only in the mind; indeed few people think of anything actual and real when using nouns. When obliged to turn nouns into verbs they are forced by an inner compulsion to think more concretely.

To speak of a germ does not generally mean that a concrete conception of the germ of a plant, say a germinating bean, exists as an image in the mind, especially if the talk is abstract. A picture arises of something vague and nebulous, as it might in the case of some principle. When you say “what germinates” or “that which germinates,” because you have used the verbal form you are at least found to think of something growing, that is, something that moves; which means that you go from the abstract to the concrete. Then because you yourself go from the abstract to the concrete the dead begin to understand you. But, for reasons I have often explained here, because the living connection between those alive on the earth and those who have passed through the gate of death, the discarnate souls, must become increasingly closer, because impulses coming from the dead must work more and more effectively into the earth, then will of necessity take gradually into their language, into their speaking into their thinking something written over from the abstract to the concrete. It must again become an aim of mankind to think imaginatively, pictorially, when they speak.

Now I ask you how many people think concretely when, let us say, they read of legal proceedings, where there were judges who judged, pronounced judgment; to have judged, to pass sentence—that is, to exercise the judicial function. Where then is the concrete thinking, or where in the whole world is there any concrete thinking, when the noun, the right or justice is uttered? Just take this very vague abstraction that is in mind when the right, justice, is spoken of, when going to law, the right thing, is expressed in speech. What then is the right really, taken purely from the point of view of language? We have in these days often said that the state should be above all a rights-state — what then is the right considered purely in itself? For most people it remains quite a shadowy conception, a conception that traffics in the dreariest abstractions. How then is one to arrive at a concrete conception of the right? Let us examine the matter by taking a single case.

You will have heard, my dear friends, certain people called clumsy (literally “left-handed”). What are clumsy people? You see, what we try to do with the left hand when we are not naturally left-handed we usually do awkwardly, not being skillful at it. When anyone conducts his whole life in the same way as one behaves when doing something with the left hand then he is clumsy. The basis of the description clumsy is the completely concrete conception “he does everything as I myself do when I use my left hand”; no dreary abstraction, but the wholly concrete “he behaves as I do when I use my left hand.” From that arises, apprehended concretely, a contrast in feeling between the left-handed and the right-handed, what is done with the right hand and what with the left. And what is right-handed (skillful) is contained in the noun “the right”. The right is originally simply what is performed as skillfully for real life as what is done with the right, and not with the left hand.

There you have indeed brought something concrete into the matter. But now picture to yourselves . . . you need only picture it with a clock, but there are numerous other cases in which one could do something similar as a rule, when you have to regulate a clock, you will not wind with the left hand, but with the right; that is how you regulate a clock. This winding from left to right accomplished with the right hand is the concrete regulating, righting, setting right. One even says “to set right”. There you have the concrete conception of the circular movement from left to right, the putting right. That is to judge, to right. One who has strayed towards the left where he should not be is set right by the judge.

It is by means of such things that one can succeed in linking concrete formative conceptions with the word. You see, such image conceptions were still linked with the words till right into the fifteenth century. But this thinking in imagery has been thrown overboard. We must once more cultivate this making of imaginative conceptions. For the dead understand only what resounds formatively in speech.

Everything no longer resounding in imagery—as is generally the case in modern speech—everything that does not produce a picture, which is not formulated in pictures to produce an Imaginative conception in the people concerned is incomprehensible to the dead.

When you consider the matter further you will see that in the transformations into vivid imagery the noun is the first to go. Then everything passes into verb form, or at least passes into something that compels one to develop picture conceptions. You see when one cultivates such a style today that picture conceptions underlie it, then as a rule one gets the response that people do not understand this, it is very hard to understand. But he who faces our times honestly will consciously strive to put things in such a form as can be conceived entirely in pictures. In the pamphlet which was published on the social question—where one is forded into abstractions because at present wherever the social question is discussed we get for the most part mere abstractions—in that pamphlet itself I strove as far as possible for a style in which the matter could be presented in picture form. It is especially in the present-day discussions over the social question that the capacity for being abstract is driven to its furthest extent. People have gradually become accustomed to accepting the words as a sort of verbal currency with which they no longer think in any concrete pictures at all. Today, to read a social pamphlet or book you find you must have been for years accustomed to what is meant in order to come to terms with the book at all. The whole meaning of such discussions depends upon the conventional use of words. Who today in speaking of “possessing” deals that the word has a certain connection with “to be possessed”? Yet the genius of speech as I have often remarked is very much more significant than what the single individual can think and speak; it creates innumerable connections that only need to be discovered by the individual for a return into a certain spiritual life.

It is just when we try to find the verb behind every noun and make it a practice not always to speak of light and sound, but to speak of what illumines, of what sounds, and then find ourselves obliged to penetrate more and more into the reality of things in contrast to the non-realities, that then we arrive at a path that can lead to healing...

If we wish to keep in sight the deeper essentials of human development from the present into the future we must bear in mind the necessity of taking up into our speech what the speech of today lacks. Because of its lack man is shut off from the whole world in which he is between death and a new birth. Hence we are exhorted, when we would establish a connection with a dead person, not simply to speak with him in verbal conceptions, for that achieves little, but to think of some concrete situation—you have stood near him in some particular way, have heard his voice, have shared an experience—to think quite concretely of the situation and everything that happened in relation to it that makes a connection with the dead.

Today man uses language in a sense which shuts him off completely from the world of the dead; the genius of speech has died to a greet extent, and must be reanimated. Much that is customary today in the use of language should be dropped. A very great deal depends upon this, my dear friends. For it is only by actually trying to listen to the genius of speech lying behind the concrete words that we shall come back to imaginative conception (which I have already mentioned here as essential for future evolution). Then we shall gradually free ourselves altogether from distorted abstractions.

In everything that goes on between man and man, men must learn to experience significant processes on a higher level. Such ideas must become as living as they are presented in my last mystery play, in the Egyptian scene, where Capesius says that what takes place there in little has significance for the whole of world events.

When men once more realise that no one can lie without a mighty uproar being made in the spiritual world, then things will be fulfilled as they must be in the sixth post-Atlantean period...

A community in which spiritual knowledge is pursued does not exist for its own sake but for the sake of humanity. It is only justified when it proves itself of REAL service to humanity and the world...

In the present age the human word is still only an imparter of thoughts and ideas. It speaks OF what is good, but cannot of itself impart goodness. The change that must take place in the human word consists in thought absorbing in itself not only what is right and true, but the essential substance of the good. Then will the word be the bearer, not of meaning alone, but of meaning kindled with moral fire.

This metamorphosis of the word, to become the bearer of the moral element, is possible because by means of spiritual science a new logic will be learned and applied. The merely formal logic of dialectical accuracy will merge into a logic filled with being - the logic of true moral greatness. This process corresponds to the harmony of heart and head in the human organism. The union of the greatest clarity of thought with the highest moral tone of which the heart is capable will in the future possess the convincing force attributed nowadays to a ‘proof.’

Spiritual science is in the world not only to create a new language in the vertical direction between earth and heaven...but to create a new language on the horizontal plane from person to person.

The Foundation Stone expresses the FUNDAMENTAL impulse of spiritual science; but even more, it not only expresses, but CONTAINS this impulse.

And as it is intended for MEDITATION, it has the virtue also of awakening and strengthening this basic impulse when we work with it meditatively.

Work with this meditation will awaken in the soul of everyone who labors honestly the force of faith in spiritual science, making possible true intercourse between the human being and the spiritual world - and also intercourse, humanly worthy and noble, between individuals.
